Jerome "Jerry" Trick Obituary

Jerome W. “Jerry” Trick of Butler Township, passed peacefully at the age of 92 on March 14, 2024.  Born February 4, 1932, in Randolph Township, Jerry married Joan Reboulet on June 3, 1950.  Joni preceded him in death in 2013.

Also preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Susan Bohardt, Jerry will be dearly missed by his sweetheart and partner in all things for the last 10 years, Annie, and his children Anita (Bob) Moulds, Michael (Pam), Pamela Froehlich (Brent Huevner), Mark (Kathy), Jeffrey (Julie), Christopher (Linda), and Daniel.

Jerry was a beloved grandpa to 15 grandchildren, Cara Kohlrieser (Paul), Melinda Stamm (Jeffrey), Julia Beam (Dustin), Shaun Dean (Lesley), Jeremy Trick (Chakara), Jessica Burke (Patrick), Michael Froehlich (Nikki), Nathan Froehlich, Andrew Trick (Courtney), Codi Boeckermann (Ryan), Abigail Turner (Quinton), Audrey Trick (Colton Barhorst), Joshua Trick (Danielle Miller), Samantha Leybourne (Joshua), and Erin Ogden (Andrew). He was blessed to know 26 great-grandchildren, Ben and Lily Kohlrieser; Riley and Luke Stamm; Cade, Kendall and Maya Beam; Callan, Logan, and Nelly Dean; Mahalee, Adriel, and Tyler Trick; PJ, Luke, and Ella Burke; Evan and Harvey Froehlich; Gianna Froehlich; Milo and Ansel Trick; Hazel and Freya Boeckermann; and Gabriel, Luca and Joclyn Leybourne.

The youngest of nine children born to Samuel and Marie (Brinkman) Trick, Jerry was preceded in death by five sisters, Carmelita Stang, Angela Kinnard, Anita Thomas, Clarice Murphy, and Virgie Murphy and three brothers, Ed, Francis, and Al.  He is survived by a brother-in-law, James Reboulet (Joy) and sister-in-law, Rosemary Millett.  Jerry treasured keeping in touch with many, many nieces and nephews as well as his in-laws from the Reboulet family and Annie’s children, Mike, Karen and Marlene

A toolmaker by trade, Jerry retired from the General Motors Corp. in 1997 but continued to tinker with all things mechanical throughout his life and spent time farming, gardening, and crafting outstanding wine, as well.  A staunch proponent of self-sufficiency and resource conservation, he never left an extra light turned on or opened the refrigerator door unnecessarily!

A distance runner in his younger years, Jerry and his son, Mark, enjoyed competing together all over the country and still hold the father-son record in the West Milton Triathalon.  Jerry worked hard to stay active and continued to attend “workouts” at Miami Valley Hospital’s North Campus until late 2023, where he developed many friendships.

In 1958, Jerry and Joni were among the first parishioners of St. Christopher Catholic Church, with Jerry singing in the choir for decades.  As a couple, they were founding members of Sister Cities of Vandalia, traveling to Lichtenfels, Germany, on several occasions.  They seldom missed their monthly Card Club gatherings with lifelong high school friends and always looked forward to evenings out with “The Geritol Gang.”  Jerry cherished the bonds he and Joni forged over the years.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, April 10, 11:30 a.m. at St. Christopher Church, 435 E. National Road, Vandalia.  The family will gather for visitation at 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Private interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery

Wishing to give back to the community where Jerry made his home, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Vandalia-Butler Foundation Term Fund 1546-- PO Box 722 Vandalia, Ohio  45377.  Please designate your check “IN MEMORY OF JERRY TRICK.”   You may also donate to this fund online through The Dayton Foundation at https://www.daytonfoundation.org/donate-credit-card
