Alan Howard Gitman

Age 78, passed away early Wednesday morning, Sept 27th 2023 in Dayton, Ohio. He is survived by his twin sons Jay and Ryan Gitman, sister Sharon Gitman, nephew Brian Gitman, long-time partner Nikki Shirk and her niece Allison, nieces Michelle Buckley and Amy Freels, and brother, Larry Gitman.

Born in Huntsville, Texas and raised in Dayton, Ohio, where he lived most of his life, Alan was a wild child in his early years with his twin brother, Stuart. With a penchant for fast cars and motorcycles, they felt most at home on the road, particularly in their late teens and twenties. They spent most of their time traveling to California and Canada while working brief periods in between. Eventually, the twins opened Gitman Auto Sales back in Dayton and settled down (somewhat). In his late thirties, Alan married Jackie Newsome, and they had twin boys, whom he told constantly were his most important purpose in life. When Stuart passed away, his son Brian was only 12 and Alan became a father figure, loving him as he knew his brother would’ve wanted. In 1995, he met his partner Nikki, who became his confidante and companion.

Although he grew quieter and more reserved later in life, he still spoke often of all the good times he had with the people he loved and cared about.

Alan had a life-long reputation for being honest and treating people with respect. He was always willing to trade life experiences and constantly preached listening, observing, and making his little corner of the world a better place.
