Alma B. Gillespie Sunderland

Alma B. Gillespie Sunderland, 94, of Martinsville, Virginia passed away Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Stanleytown Health Care. She was born in Clifton, Ohio, April 1, 1920 to Ernest W. Brewer and Goldie G. Wolfe Brewer. She retired from Indiana State Bank where she was a travel agent. She was a member of garden clubs in Ohio and Indiana and the Eastern Star. Mrs. Sunderland was a member of First United Methodist Church in Martinsville and was also active in church circles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John E. Gillespie; her second husband, Andy Sunderland; one daughter Peggy Gillespie Ford; one sister and three brothers. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Shary and Jim Wampner of Martinsville; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Pete Griffin of Marysville, Ohio; Four grandchildren, Ric Wampner and wife Shannon of Hebron, Indiana, Karen Gregory and husband John of Martinsville, Colin Ford and wife Liz of Sterling, Virginia, Catherine Wingfield and husband Marvin of Martinsville; two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Hazel Wampner. Funeral Services will be held Friday, October 24, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Morton and Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia, Ohio with interment to follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the Flower Fund of First United Methodist Church, 146 East Main Street, Martinsville, VA 24112 or the Peggy Ford Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 5688, Martinsville, VA 24112.
