Alta M. Lamb

June 28, 1919 — November 8, 2017

Alta May Lamb passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 8th 2017 at the age of 98 in her Dayton, Ohio (Butler Township) home, surrounded by loved ones.
Alta was born in 1919 in Troy, Ohio to the late Rollo E. Harbaugh and Fern (Andrews) Harbaugh, and spent her childhood in Miami County. While she was born and raised on a farm, she was a city girl at heart. Alta had impeccable style. She was known for her love of heels, colorful scarfs, and beautiful broaches.
Alta went to Bethel High school, where she met her future husband and father of their three children, Harry Lamb. Harry gained Alta’s attention by teasing her, a theme that continued throughout their life together. Alta had a great sense of humor and knew how to make people smile, even at the age of 98. While Alta did not go on to further education after high school, she was a lifelong learner – always finding something new to study. She even took computer classes in her early 80’s so she could learn how to send emails to her loved ones across the country!
Her church was her passion, her purpose and her mission but she also valued her career. She began her career as an Accountant/Bookkeeper at Nate’s clothing store. She worked as the Accountant for Harry L. Lamb Realty and retired as the President of the company at the age of 75.
Her life was never about her. She lived to serve God and spent her life dedicating herself to fulfilling the gospel and service of the church. Alta had many jobs at the church, including the Pianist, Organist, church Treasurer and a Sunday School Teacher. However her real titles in the church were Prayer Warrior, Disciple, and Encourager.
She took these roles very seriously and devoted her time to reaching out to people in the community, the hurting, and the lost. She was a lifelong supporter of missionaries overseas and abroad. She was known to spend hours, every day, praying for friends, family, acquaintances, missionaries, people she had met once and most importantly those who had not yet accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. She touched so many lives with her prayers and brought countless people to know the Lord.
Alta and Harry married on August 28th, 1939. They went on to have three children, Kenton, Stephen Taryl and Lisa.
Alta loved her family deeply and was blessed with 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. To have known Alta is to be blessed. She will be missed dearly, but we take comfort in knowing that she is with her late loved ones and her Father in Heaven.

Alta was preceded in death by her husband Harry Lamb, son, Kenton Lamb, daughter in-law, Eva, grandson, Kent Stephen, sister, Viola, sister Catharine, sister Mary, and brother John.
Alta is survived by 2 of her children, Stephen Taryl Lamb (Barb Lamb) and Lisa Benton (Don Benton); 7 grand children, Kristi Black (Braden Black), Karla Lamb, Stephen Taryl Lamb II (Stephanie Lamb), Nathan Lamb (Julie Lamb), Matt Lamb, Brittany Nelson and Jeremy Nelson (Michelle Nelson); 18 great-grandchildren Alex, Connor, Braden Jr.,Jake, Evan, Emily, Kaitlyn, Ava, Lauren, Rachel, Lyla, Olivia, Stephen Taryl III, Rebekah, Benjamin, Lola, Elisabeth and Landon and sister, Margaret, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 13th at Northridge Wesleyan Church, located at 1842 Neff Rd., Dayton, OH 45414, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. with a memorial service following.
