WORTHINGTON, Amon A. Al , age 86, of Vandalia went to be with the Lord Monday, March 18, 2013. He was born June 16, 1926 in Pikeville, TN to Ed & Amanda Worthington. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, John, Tellis, Lurtin, & Billy and 3 sisters, Mary, Neva & Mae. Al is survived by his loving wife, Dollie (Wright) Worthington of Vandalia; son, Dan Worthington, 3 grandchildren, Jeremy, Mandi & Danny; 2 great-grandchildren, Gunner & Wyatt, all of Northridge; 5 step-children, Karen, Deborah, Anitia, Edd & David; 10 step-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was employed by the Local #18 Crane Operators for 44 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vandalia and a member of the Classics Group at the church. He served his country proudly as a Navy veteran of WWII. He served on a Destroyer Escort, earned 5 Battle Stars & has several commendations from the United States Government for his outstanding service. Al was a loving, caring and generous man to his church, his family and his community. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 22 at the First Baptist Church, 140 Elva Ct., Vandalia with Mr. John Seagraves officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church on Thursday evening from 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association for research. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
