Archie Askins

ASKINS, Archie Franklin, age 90 of Vandalia, passed away Friday, April 13, 2007 at Alterra Sterling House in Englewood. Archie was born September 17, 1916 in Menifee County, KY, son of the late Ezra Dock Bradley & America F. (Brooks) Askins. He retired from Reliance Electric with 36 years of service, helped assemble the first B-29 Bomber rolled out by Boeing Aircraft Co., and was an avid runner. Archie was a lifelong member of the Nazarene Church, a charter member of the Vandalia Church of the Nazarene, was formerly a Gideon and was a Kentucky Colonel. Preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, Cora B. Smith and 1 brother, Arthur Seldon Askins, Archie is survived by his wife of 68 years, E. Mavis Craft; 1 daughter, Dana A. Brown and husband, Wendell of Vandalia; 2 grandchildren, Timothy Brown & wife, Marilee of Dayton, and Kimberly Simpson & husband, Timothy of Vandalia; 4 great-grandchildren, Ashley Ankney & husband, Bradley of Columbus, Seth Brown, USMC, California, Adam and Jacob Simpson of Vandalia; 3 sisters, Carmie Brown and Irene Cornette of Frenchburg, KY, and Peggy Cornett & husband, Ray of Lutz, FL; brothers-in-law, Herbert S. Craft & wife, Freda of Middletown, and Arlo D. Manning of Wellington, KY. Archie also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, April 17 at the Dayton First Church of the Nazarene, 7031 N. Main St., Dayton with Rev. Donnis Burris, Rev. James Brown and Rev. Stan Wood officiating. Burial to follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday evening from 5-8 pm. If so desired, contributions may be made to the Dayton First Church of the Nazarene in Archies memory. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
