ANTHONY, Arlene G. (Vance) age 88 of Vandalia, passed away Saturday August 31, 2013 at Upper Valley Medical Center following an illness. Arlene was born April 29, 1925 in Rainelle, WVA daughter of the late Frank & Zona (Headrick) Hoke. She was the owner of Arlenes Flowers and Gift Boutique, was a retired employee of D.E.S.C with over 25 years of service, was a volunteer at Vandalia Park Nursing Center and was a member of the Vandalia Baptist Temple where she was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. Arlene was preceded in death by her first husband Raymond Vance; 2 sisters Mary Gladys Swathwood and Lucille Shaver; one brother Melvin Hoke. She is survived by her husband Herbert Anthony; one son Ron (Dianne) Vance of Columbus, IN; one daughter Debbie (Dan) Elliott of Vandalia; 3 step-sons John, Joe, and David Anthony; one step-daughter Ruth Ann (Michael) Batchelor; 3 grandchildren Shawn (Kelly) Jones, Matthew (Nikki) Jones, Ryan Jones; 4 great-grandchildren Evan, Ella, Carlee, and Sophia; step-grandchildren Joey, Josh, David Jr., Elizabeth, Jessica, Leah, and Matthew and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday September 4 at 10:00am at the Vandalia Baptist Temple 724 Helke Rd. Vandalia with Pastor Rick Washburn officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia on Tuesday evening from 5-8pm. If so desired, contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association in Arlenes memory.
