Arzie Greene
Age 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born on August 27, 1926, in Paintsville, Kentucky to Lonnie E. and Alice Hall Green. Arzie was a veteran of the United States Army where he earned the rank of Sergeant. He served the longest with Charlie Company 116th Infantry Regiment, 40th Infantry Division. During his service, Arzie was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Campaign Stars, and the National Defense Service Medal. Arzie was a faithful member of Kerwin Baptist Church in Kernersville. He enjoyed playing golf and was also an avid reader. Arzie loved sports but he primarily enjoyed baseball. Arzie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Arzie was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Greene; his son, Roger Dale Greene; one grandson, Ayden William Greene; and eight siblings, Rushie May Green, Homer Green, Ruel Green, Garnett Janelle Burchett, Wilbur Jay Greene, Loretta Jewel Vanhoose, Stella Mae McDonald, and Kenneth Ray Greene.
He is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Perdue Greene; three children, William Jeffery Greene, Veronica K. Miller, and Darrel Stephen Greene (wife, Alyson); one step son, Clinton Richard “Rick” Perdue (wife, Christa); eight grandchildren, Alexandria Elizabeth Marso (husband, Christopher), Casey Elizabeth Greene, Carson William Greene, Ella Jehn Greene, Michala Perdue Rierson (husband, Brodrick), Brandon Lane Perdue, Dakota Shane Phillips, and Sterling Glyn Phillips; two great grandchildren, Ashton Christopher Marso and Charleston Grace May Marso; and two siblings, Emma Deloris Vance and Earl Green.
The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 10, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Jerry Siler will officiate. Interment with military honors will be at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
