Barbara Jean (Cheek) Steger, 82, was born in Jackson, Ohio to James and Lilly Cheek in 1941. Barbara was a 1962 graduate of Man High School, in Man, WV. She was the owner and proprietor of Amish Country Furniture for 25 years in downtown Troy Ohio, and a former employee of Stouder Hospital.
In 1969 Barbara was saved by grace through faith, and baptized at Dayton Baptist Temple. She raised her children to be believers and followers of Jesus Christ, according to the tenets of her faith. Although she endured tremendous hardships, she was a tenacious overcomer who refused to be a victim. She was an excellent example of faith, love, positivity and diligence. She was an amazing woman!
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 32 years Donald Williams, several siblings, and beloved son Michael Alan Lentz.
She is survived by her husband, the love of her life - Charlie Steger, beloved daughter Virginia (Steve) Fox; daughters-in-law: Stacey Gress and Jennifer Snider; stepchildren: Chris (Rhonda) Williams, Robin (Keith) Pennington, Megan (Rick) Washburn; grandchildren: Ashley (Peter) Docherty, Adam Shults, Jason (Natalie) Lentz, Samantha Lentz, Mike, Jessica, Marisa and Carys Williams; great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Malachi, Esther, and Ezra Docherty and Ellie Williams, siblings: Ann, Dianne, Johnny Ray, Hassel Lee, and Angelia; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.
She cherished her family, and delighted in hosting elaborate holiday gatherings, attending family reunions, shopping, gardening, reading fiction, and decorating her home like something out of Better Homes & Gardens magazine. Thanks to her impeccable taste and decorating skills, her heirloom furniture and gift store was enchanting! She also enjoyed going on cruises and traveling abroad. She loved ice cream, flowers, dolls, fine dining and chocolates, jewelry, dresses and high heels. Although she enjoyed having the finer things in life, Barbara never grew tired of biscuits and gravy nor beans and cornbread.
Barbara was vivacious! She had a great sense of humor, and loved regaling her family and friends with funny stories collected throughout her long life.
Barbara adored her Pastor, Jeremy Spence, and her friends at First Baptist Church St. Paris. She and the family are grateful for all of their help and support through the years. In addition to her church community, the family would also like to thank her private nurse Heidi, and the wonderful staff from Hospice of Troy for their amazing, compassionate care.
