Bernard F Handley

HANDLEY, Bernard Franklin, passed away February 13, 2010 of heart complications at the age of 80. He was born April 19, 1929 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Irene (Meyers) & Bernard Franklin Handley Sr. Bernard is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Helen Margaret Brown, his 3 devoted daughters, Luanne Blair (John), Cheryl Lincoln (James) and Marji Richwine (Dirk); 4 grandchildren, Brittany & Julie Lincoln and Amy & Andrew Richwine; 5 sisters, Mildred Upp, Veda Carlene Lawson, Margery Brooks, Phyllis Owen & Patricia Bower. A 1947 graduate of Fairview HS, he was Vice President of the family gas business before making a career as a salesman at Dills Supply Company. He served in the Ohio Air National Guard from 1947 to 1953. Bernie was active in the Sons of the American Revolution, Masonic Lodge (50 years), the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, a former member of Fort McKinley UM Church and a current and active member of Vandalia United Methodist Church. He will be missed by the many lives he has touched. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, February 19 at the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with Rev. Thomas Weeks officiating. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm at Polk Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Thursday evening from 4-7 pm with Masonic Services at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Masonic Learning Centers for Children, 525 W. Riverview Ave., Dayton, OH 45401 or to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1900 Richmond Rd., Lexington, KY 40502 in Bernies memory.
