CHAFFIN, Bobbie Jean., age 79 of Vandalia, passed away Friday, December 16, 2016 at Hospice of Dayton. She was born March 5, 1937 in Dayton, OH, daughter of the late Robert & Mary Jane (Mooney) Shears. Although Bobbie would have loved to have been a teacher, and though she never taught in a classroom, she filled a more important role in the lives of the many children blessed to be cared for in her home. She was more than a “babysitter.” She was a passionate, loving and guiding example for all of her children, parents, and anyone fortunate enough to meet her.
Family and friends were Bobbie’s first love and greatest passion and she taught them all to live by the Golden Rule, “Treat others the way you would like to be treated, show loving acts of kindness, make someone laugh, send a card, give a hug. Always say “I Love You” and “Be Careful.” Bobbie was an avid fan of the The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bengals. She loved camping, coffee, visiting the library, cooking and crafting. She was fearless when trying new recipes and was famous for her Fall Chili Cookouts. Bobbie loved building things and never let anything stand in her way when learning new skills.
Preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur; sisters, Nancy Hauboldt, Carolyn Johnson, Sharon Shears (twin of Karen) and Debbie Marcum, Bobbie is survived by her children, Casey Chaffin (Jeaninne), Sheryl Chaffin, & Matt Chaffin (Amy); 6 grandchildren, Sara Torosian, Christina, Jason, Abby, Ellie & Ian Chaffin; 3 great-grandchildren, Paul, Katherine & Cora Torosian; her good friend, Doug Perry; 3 sisters, Linda Cook, Pam Byrd (Larry), & Karen Mead (John); 1 brother, Bill Shears (Barb), along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, December 20 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Interment will follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dayton Children’s Comprehensive Care Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, 1 Children’s Plaza, Dayton, OH 45404 in Bobbie’s memory.
