Brenda Byrd

August 1, 1955 — October 2, 2024

Brenda Byrd, age 69, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2024, after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma. Born on August 1, 1955, in Dayton, Ohio, to Leslie and Jeannette Simon, Brenda was a vibrant spirit who filled the lives of those around her with love and creativity.

Brenda married beloved husband, Ron Byrd, in August of 1976. Together, they shared a beautiful life marked by adventure and deep connection. Brenda graduated from Vandalia-Butler High School in 1973 and resided in Butler Township until 2017, when she and Ron moved to Arizona. After retiring, they explored new places and cherished their morning coffee talks, relishing each moment together.

An avid crafter, Brenda expressed her love through handmade gifts, always keeping her hands busy. She found joy in exercise and the great outdoors, and her infectious energy drew others to her. Since relocating to Arizona in 2017, she became an integral part of her community, organizing neighborhood events and decorating for special occasions. Brenda also cherished her time working at a local boutique, where her warm spirit touched the lives of many.

Above all, Brenda was a devoted mother and grandmother. She cherished her children, Angie Marinucci (Eric) and Brittany Gehrts (Nick), and embraced every moment with her beloved grandchildren, Gunnar, Giana, and Nico. She is also survived by her dear sister, Darla Francisco (Rick), step-sisters, Amy Brooks and Becky Mallet.  Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Jeannette; one brother, Dennis Simon, and her step-father, Ralph Brooks.

A celebration of Brenda’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Brenda's memory be made to the Gray Matters Foundation, an organization that provided invaluable support to them during her illness. This nonprofit empowers brain tumor patients and their loved ones through encouragement and outreach. https://graymattersfoundation.org

Brenda will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
