Carol Lee Oren
Age 70 of Vandalia, OH passed away Friday, April 8, 2022 of natural causes. Born October 4, 1951 in Dayton, Ohio to James and Betty (Sanders) Oren.
Carol is survived by her mother, Betty K. Oren, daughter Connie (Dwayne) Hughes, son Christopher (Michelle) Davis, grandchildren Malcolm and Nicholas Hughes, brothers Roger (Kelly) and Ken (Daryl), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, James C. Oren, brother James C. Oren, Jr, and sister Jeanette (Bill) Cook.
Carol was a lifelong lover of music, theater, and art, gaining bachelor’s degrees in music and theater at Wright State University and an associate degree at Sinclair Community College; she sang for many years with the Dayton Philharmonic, Happy Corner Church of the Brethren, and Southminster Presbyterian Church. She also, for some years, directed the choir and bell choir at Happy Corner. She could play a large number of musical instruments and astonished her family members by quickly picking up new ones, often out of simple curiosity. Her love of theater was equally apparent: she directed, performed in, costumed, produced, stage managed, and/or built sets for numerous plays on stages large and small at Wright State, Sinclair, numerous community theaters, and at Happy Corner. Carol also loved to travel; she lived in three different countries, as well as six states, based on the military career of her former husband, Charles Davis, and traveled for fun to many other places around the globe. Following his retirement from the U.S. Army, they settled back in the Dayton area, where she worked for and eventually took over running her mother’s business, Oren Fab and Supply.
In celebration of Carol’s life, a memorial service will be held May 7, 2022 at Happy Corner Church of the Brethren, with service at 11am with Trent Smith officiating.
Carol was an avid supporter of animal and nature conservation, so memorial contributions are welcome in Carol’s name to the World Wildlife Fund (http://worldwildlife.org).
