Carolyn Ione Faust

Carolyn Ione Faust, 85, of Centerville (formerly Vandalia), Ohio, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Bethany Rehabilitation Center. She was born October 25, 1930 in Mansfield, Ohio, where she lived during her childhood. She was a graduate of Mansfield High School, and The Ohio State University, where she received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music, majoring in piano and voice.
While at OSU, Carolyn met her husband, Jack Faust. They moved to Troy, Ohio, Jack’s home town, where they raised their four children. Carolyn enjoyed performing as a soloist and in ensembles. She also learned to play the harp. She was choir director at the First Lutheran Church in Troy for many years, she taught private piano and voice lessons; she was a music teacher at Miami East High School, and later became a professor of vocal music at the University of Dayton.
Carolyn and her family eventually moved to Vandalia, where she continued to enjoy teaching private lessons into her later years. Her students, family, friends, and music meant the world to her. Carolyn loved life and always looked for the bright side of everything.
She was a member of two music clubs and mother’s club in Troy, and SAI Music Fraternity. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Dayton.
Carolyn was the daughter of Augustus A. and Ione L. (Young) Pifer who preceded her in death.
She is also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Jack F. Faust, and by two sons, Jack F. Faust, Jr. and Charles F. Faust, II. She was preceded in death by half-sister Bernadine Cuppett, half-sister June M. Windsor (Frank), sister Annabelle A. Pifer, and brother George A. Pifer (Evelyn).
She is survived by two daughters, Heidi Long (Steven) and Dr. Holly Hahn; three grandchildren, Amanda Long, Stephanie Llacuna & John “Jack” Hahn; two step-grandsons, Jason Long and Eric Long; five great-grandchildren, Eva Spencer, Unomi Koshari, Sage Eyth, and Jasmine and Nanea Llacuna; by her two nieces, Nancy Pifer Wasserman (Mike), and Margaret “Peggy” Pifer Blackledge (Mike); and by her extended family and many good friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday, April 29, at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Interment will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery, Vandalia. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until time of service on Friday.
