HARRINGTON, Carolyn Joyce (nee Buchholz). age 81 of Vandalia, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Carolyn was born in Dayton, Ohio, on April 9, 1933 to John and Rosemarie (Prechtl) Buchholz. She was a loving, trusted and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be missed greatly. As an elementary counselor for more than 25 years in Northmont Schools, Carolyn compassionately and dedicatedly guided young people through challenges associated with life and school. Carolyn was a parishioner of St. Christopher Church and member of the prayer shawl group. She also belonged to The Dayton Women's Club, Delta Kappa Gamma educational sorority and Vandalia Senior Citizens Center. Carolyn enjoyed playing bridge, collecting cookbooks, crocheting, and stamping beautiful, handmade cards with her Angel friends, but most of all, she cherished time with her family. She is preceded in death by her husband, George of 56 years, and sister, Terri Phillips. Carolyn is survived by her daughters Kathleen Harrington and Sheila and husband David Dean all of Vandalia, son Joseph and wife Terri Harrington of Butler Twp., brother John Buchholz and wife Rita; grandchildren Jordan, Michael, Reilly, Sarah, Marie, Elaine, and Erin, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 3, at 11:00 am at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Vandalia with Fr. Francis Keferl officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia on Wednesday evening from 5-7pm.
