Carolyn Mae Shanks (Hurst, Manger)

Passed away peacefully on the morning of December 15, 2018. She was 92. Born December 5, 1926 in Latham, Ohio, the daughter of the late Jacob Mearl & Lavina Manger.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was also preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon L. Hurst; her second husband, Robert L. Shanks; grandson, Brian J. Barney; and uncle, Kenneth Potratz.

During her working years she was an office bookkeeper in the Dayton area. She was an avid gardener, devoted friend and loving mother and grandmother. Carolyn was also a lifelong member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by three children, Roy Manger (Deborah), Dennis Hurst (Cathy) & Kathy Barney (Randy); seven grandchildren, Dennis, Kimberly (Thomas), Jared (Monica), Jason (Samantha), Kurtis (Rachel), Kristopher (Adiba) & Ken (Lyra); and by nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday (12/20) at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Pastor Michael Malcosky will officiate. Interment will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
