Charles E. Verburg

VERBURG, Charles E., age 79 of Vandalia, passed away Friday, November 26, 2010 at The Ohio State University Medical Center. He was born February 18, 1931 in Tipp City, Ohio and lived 56 years in the Vandalia area. Charles was a 1949 graduate of Kiser High School and obtained his B.S. from Urbana College. He was a retired Draftsman from General Motors with 41 years of service, and was retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and spent over 20 years coaching Vandalia Youth Baseball. Charles was a dedicated husband and father of 3, a grandpa and great-grandpa. He will be greatly missed but we have loving memories to sustain us. Preceded in death by his mother, Mary Verburg, 1 sister, Joyce Tucker and his daughter-in-law, Cindy Verburg, Charles is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Donna Verburg; 3 sons, Doug Verburg (Suzi), Ken Verburg (Nancy), and Brad A. Verburg (Jill); 6 grandchildren, Brian Verburg (Megan), Matt Verburg, Amy Helkowski (Darin), Michael Bush, Maggie Leonard (Adam) and Amanda Verburg; 6 great-grandchildren, Conner, Logan, Cole, Max, Gavin, Anna Grace; brother-in-law, Paul Tucker; sister-in-law, Marylyn Facchinni; nieces, Paula Whitecar (Don), and Michelle Graham. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, December 1, at the First Baptist Church, 140 Elva Ct., Vandalia, officiating will be Pastor John Shonle of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia on Tuesday evening from 5-8 pm. If so desired, contributions may be made to the Vandalia Food Pantry in memory of Charles.
