Charlotte Gillespie

GILLESPIE, Charlotte A., (Borcherding) of Vandalia, died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Hospice of Dayton following a four year treatment for endometrial cancer. She was born in Cincinnati, OH on January 12, 1928 to the late Florence & Clifford Borcherding. The beloved wife of Kent W. Gillespie, they shared 60 years of being happily married. They have three children, Michael (and wife Nancy) of Glide, OR, Bruce (& wife, Sherry) of Naches, WA and Susan Cantrell (& husband, Mark) of Pearl River, LA; grandchildren, Adam and Abby Gillespie, both of OR and Jennifer and Joseph Cantrell, both of LA. Charlotte attended public school in Mt. Healthy, OH and college at Miami University in Oxford, OH, where she studied in the field of Education, majoring in Home Economics. She met Kent at her dormitory open house in 1946. They were married August 1, 1950 at the Northside Methodist Church in Cincinnati. She was a full time homemaker and enjoyed showing others her flower gardens and giving away plant starts. She was an active member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Troupers Sunday School Class, the Vandalia Lioness Club and the Sassy Red Hatters Club. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm, Thursday, February 10 at the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with Rev. Thomas Weeks officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 11:00 am until time of service. If so desired, contributions may be made to the Vandalia United Methodist Women in Charlottes memory. Arrangements by Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
