GOODNER, Claude M., age 86 of Vandalia, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born April 10, 1926 in Arcanum, OH, son of the late Grover S. & Katie (Johnson) Goodner. Claude was a member of the St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church, Vandalia, a member of Masonic Lodge #742 F&AM, the Franklin Council #14 of Troy and the Royal Arch Masons #24 of Troy. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a retired employee of General Motors with 40 years of service. Claude was a volunteer at Miami Valley Hospital and the Vandalia-Butler Food Pantry. He was an avid golfer who genuinely treasured his golf friendships, and was a member of the Troy Country Club and enjoyed his leagues at Cassel Hills Golf Course. Preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann in 2006, Claude is survived by his children, Gregory Goodner (Yevonne) of Dayton, Douglas Goodner (Donna) of FL and Susan Wagner (Frank) of AL; 7 grandchildren, Megan (Brenden), Amy, John, Katie, Sarah, David & Robbie (Virginia); 2 sisters, Edna Barga and Barbara Link (Marvin), and his good friend, Janet Pendergrass who was a very special part of his life. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, April 25 at the St. Johns Lutheran Church of Vandalia, with Pastor Gil Santiago officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Tuesday evening from 4-7 pm. If so desired, contributions may be made to the St. Johns Lutheran Church Memorial Fund in Claudes memory.
