Claude Allen Snyder
Age 92 of Vandalia, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 16, 1927 in Wellsville, Ohio, son of the late Roy W. & Grace E. (Ferguson) Snyder.
Claude served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He was a retired employee of Iron Workers Local #290 with 41 years of service. Claude was a longtime member of Polk Grove United Church of Christ and held leadership positions as a 32nd Degree Mason of the Vandalia Lodge #742, Unity Chapter #16, Reese Council #9, Dayton Commandery #68, and Tall Cedars. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of the York Cross of Honour (KYCH). Claude enjoyed gardening especially growing gourds and took pride in his numerous building projects. He was an avid blood donor for many years.
He was preceded in death by his oldest son Brent Snyder, and eight siblings: Roy, George, Bob, Don, Norman, Duke, Patti and Tom Snyder. Claude is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary (Hyland) Snyder; two sons: Bruce (Denise) Snyder and Brian Snyder; daughter-in-law Mona Snyder; five grandchildren: Justin (Stacy) Snyder, Sarah Snyder, Brent Snyder, Erin Snyder and Ellen Snyder; five great-grandchildren: Ella Snyder, Elaina Snyder, Lukas Anderson, Lotus Wombold, and Marlie Snyder; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Lisa Campbell for her support and care of Claude.
Private funeral services will be held for the family on Saturday, April 11, 2020 with the public memorial service to be scheduled for a later date. Interment will follow the service at Polk Grove Cemetery.
