Col. James Edmond Piercy, PhD
Age 98, of Vandalia, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at Danbury Senior Living in Huber Heights, Ohio. James was born April 17, 1921 in Philadelphia, Mississippi to the late Willie Joe Ducksworth & Tabitha Ann (Hofmeister) Piercy. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by five siblings, J. C. Piercy, Mildred Coward, William Robert Piercy, Lemuel Frank Piercy & Carolyn Smith.
James is survived by his loving wife of the past 72 years, Ursula (Goerbert) Piercy; three sons, James Piercy, Richard Piercy & his wife, Karen and Jeffrey Piercy & his wife Kathleen; three grandchildren, Stefan, Jillian (Ben) & Isaac (Cindy); and by six great grandchildren, Olivia, Allison, Mason, Andrew, Evan & Jack; and by two sisters, Mary Piercy & Evelyn Brewer.
Col. Piercy retired from the U. S. Army with 26 years, 7 months & 22 days of service. He was also a member of the Army Officers Association.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Funeral services will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Chaplain Andral Gooden officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
