Dale E. Epard
Age 79, of Vandalia, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024. Dale was born September 17, 1944 in Vandalia, Ohio to Leon M. & Marcella (Osborn) Epard. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Kay Ray in 2012; stepmother, Paula Epard; son, Frankie Ray; daughter, Nancy Walton; brother, Robert Epard; and by his sister, Diana Jean Gay.
Dale was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. After leaving the Air Force he worked for Ohio Bell, eventually retiring from Ameritech. After retirement he spent many years working with Sharon running the Donut Palace where he had to become the “Jack of all Trades.” He was an all-state baseball player. His passions were baseball, softball and golf and he was an avid Red’s fan.
Dale is survived by three grandsons, Benjamin Walton & his wife, Kristen, Zachary Walton & his wife, Amy & Cody Walton & his wife, Courtney; brother, Thomas; two sisters, Mary Ann Walker & Joyce Barry & her husband, W. D.; three great grandchildren, Claire, Kate & Emma; his special friend, Sandy Falkenstein; close cousin, Pam McClung (Epard); numerous nieces & nephews; his two dogs, Ginger & Zoey; and by his extended family & many good friends.
The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 – 3:00 pm, Friday, July 12, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Drive, Vandalia. Funeral services with military honors will follow at 3:00 pm. Inurnment will be Friday, July 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
