Dan N. Javorina

July 4, 1946 — January 18, 2016

JAVORINA, Daniel N. “Dan”

Age 69, of Butler Twp., passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 18, 2016, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Dan was born July 4, 1946 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Nicholas & Nancy (Cordetti) Javorina. Dan retired from the U. S. Army with 32 years of service and went on to retire a second time from WPAFB. He enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, and trapshooting. Dan is survived by his wife, Pamela A. Sherer Javorina; children, Amanda Javorina (Jeffery Hale), Daniel C. Maze and Stephanie Poland (Kyle); three grandchildren, Elliott, Quinn and Shelby; six siblings, Mary Broome (Chuck), Michael Javorina, Anna Deri (Bob), Rita Javorina, Rosemary Javorina, Toni Gift (Dan), and Robin Sherer; nieces and nephews, Mike Javorina, (late) Mark Javorina, Bryan Broome, Russell Broome, Greg Broome, Mark Broome, Laura Broome Strong, Christopher Deri, Angela Javorina, Alyssa Gift, Maria Deri, Emily Gift, Nicholas Gift, Kenzie Gift, Angela Finnigan, Paul Sherer, and Andrew Sherer ; extended family, and many beloved friends.

Dan enjoyed tinkering in his workshop with tools. He could fix lawnmowers, vacuums, radios, and any other small appliance with ease. He loved reading and would devour books. He spent many an afternoon watching Law & Order with his daughter, Amanda. He was a master marksman and was on the Army Rifle Team for many years. Dan was a collector of many things; some things without reasons. His pockets, coat or otherwise, held many treasures; broken toothpicks, hardware, bandaids, ear plugs, and much more.

Dan could be cautious around others and seemed gruff, but in his retirement years he never met a stranger. His wife Pam likened him to an M&M: crunchy outer shell, but sweet on the inside. He maintained decades-long friendships and was especially close to Fred Obermiller, his Hamvention adventure buddy for many years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Tuesday, February 2nd, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 6161 Chambersburg Road, Huber Heights. Following Mass, a reception to celebrate Dan’s life will be held at his & Pamela’s home in Butler Township. Interment at a later date will be at Polk Grove Cemetery in Butler Twp.
