Debra L. Hurst

Hurst, Debra Lynn, born in 1958, in Los Angeles CA, died July 26, 2018 in Shelby County, Ohio. She spent most of her life in Butler Township. She graduated from Bisbee High School, Class of 1976.

Children were her greatest joy and this was best appreciated through her love of her sons, her volunteer work in the schools, and in her every interaction with her grandchildren. Debbie dedicated much of her life to children serving as President of the Vandalia-Butler PTA, participation in Kids Voting, and classroom volunteer work. A gifted seamstress, her love of children shone in making costumes for Vandalia Youth Theatre and her grandchildren. In particular, in sewing beautiful dresses for her granddaughter Maddie. As an artist and creative spirit, Debbie spread beauty and love through her baking and gardening and expanded her love of gardening beyond her own yard by volunteering with Five Rivers MetroParks at Wegerzyn Gardens. Debbie touched the lives of everyone she knew. Debbie’s artistic talent brought exquisiteness to every endeavor she undertook. She will be remembered and missed forever as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend.

Preceded in death by her husband Glen, father, Donald Golden, step-father Jack Brown, and her step-brother Guy Golden, Debra is survived by her son Chase and daughter-in-law Kristy, her son Aaron and his fiancé Kathryn, two grandchildren Madison and Bentley, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Pam and Jim Waltrip, her mother Elaine Brown, sisters Kathy, Merron and Gloria, brother John and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 3 from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with funeral services immediately following. Burial will follow immediately at Polk Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Debbie’s honor may be made to the Five Rivers MetroParks.
