Delena Ramey

RAMEY, Delena (Doepel) age 87, of Vandalia went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2010. Delena was born in Harlan County, KY on July 18, 1922 the loving daughter of the late Harmon & Mae Doepel. She worked as a Quality Control Inspector for Goodyear Company in Akron, OH during WWII. Delena married her high school sweetheart, Bill Ramey and resided in Grays Knob, KY, until she moved to the Dayton area in 1953. Delena was affectionately known as the Animal Lady in Vandalia for her great love of animals and her work with the animal shelter and Humane Society during the 1970s. She and her husband Bill were Charter Members of the First Baptist Church of Vandalia. Well-known and loved there, Delena passed on her love and knowledge of the Lord to many children as a Sunday School Teacher for over 30 years. Delena retired from the Kroger Company in 1984 after 23 years of service. She devoted her later years to the church and her family. The last 3-1/2 years of her life Delena resided at Hearth and Home of Vandalia where she made many friends and happily spent her remaining years. Delena had a zest for life, a wonderful sense of humor, and an outlook that should be an example to us all. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, William H. Ramey, wonderful son, Paul G. Ramey, brothers, Ernest and R.T. Doepel, and brother-in-law, Jack Moore, Delena is survived by her son, William R. Ramey & wife, Debbie of Laughlin, NV, her daughter, Rhonda L. Seskevics & Mike Kimbrel; 2 grandchildren, Matthew Seskevics and Cassandra Ramey; 2 brothers, Joe Arnold Doepel and James Doepel and their families; 2 sisters with whom she shared a special bond which will never be broken, Regina Moore and Revina Pizzino; special niece, Tina Pizzino, and numerous other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In My Fathers house are many mansions and we will all be together as a family again with the Lord. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, June 26 at First Baptist Church Vandalia, 140 Elva Ct. with Pastor David Starry officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Friday evening from 5-8 pm.
