BECKEY, Della Mae (Leslie). Della was born in Pikeville, Kentucky on November 18, 1925 to Mitchell Leslie and Dova Mae (Bevins) Leslie. Della went to be with her Lord at the age of 84 on February 26, 2010. Della was preceded in death by her Father, Mother, Sister, Irene Kramer and husband, Robert and her Brother, Ralph D. Leslie and wife, Foresteen. Della is survived by her beloved husband, John D. (Jack) Beckey, Brother, Gary R. Leslie and wife, Julia of Lexington, Kentucky, stepdaughter, Patricia M. Baxter and her son, Graham Baxter, and daughter, Jomar (Baxter) Liddy and husband, Chris and son, William of Australia, nephew, Dr. Michael Leslie and wife, Elizabeth and sons, Patrick and Justin, and niece, Kathy Wagner and husband, Toby, and children, Kevin, Ben, Jeff and Jessica of Pikeville, Kentucky and many beloved cousins. Della graduated from Pikeville High School in 1942 at the age of 16. She graduated from Pikeville Junior College in 1944. She continued her education at Eastern University in Richmond, Kentucky and graduated from there in 1954. She started teaching at the age of 18. She taught 3 years in a country school in Pike County, Kentucky and then 7 years in Pikeville City Schools. She moved to Ohio in 1954 and taught 25 years in Vandalia, Ohio. She continued her education at Miami University and Wright State University. Della retired in 1982 and moved to Englewood, Ohio. She has attended the Englewood United Methodist Church for many years. Prior to that she attended the Salem Church of God and remained a member of the Helping Hands Circle there for the rest of her life. Della loved to read. She also loved cooking, gardening, hiking, traveling and just being with other people. She was always glad to help whenever and wherever she could. She was a member of Our Homes Garden Club since 1955. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the DAR Bridge Club. In her travels, Della and Jack traveled to Australia several times. They also went to Hawaii several times and made one trip to Europe where they visited 8 countries. In their travels, they also visited most of the 50 states. Della looks forward to being with her Lord. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, March 1 at the Englewood United Methodist Church, 107 N. Walnut St., with Rev. Kim Armentrout officiating. Burial to follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 11:00 am until time of service. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home.
