Dennis "Junior" Duncan

July 11, 1930 — October 29, 2014

Dennis Junior Duncan, 84 of Lewisburg, Ohio and formerly of Thomasville, Georgia passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday October 29, 2014. Dennis, known to most as "Junior" was born in Putnam County, West Virginia on July 11, 1930 to Lave Monroe Duncan and Ruby Jewell Arthur Duncan but lived most of his childhood on a farm in Vinton Co, Ohio where his family relocated. Junior was one of 6 children and began working as a very young man as a plumber and all around tradesman. He married Phyllis Jean Metzger at age 21 in January of 1951 in Dayton, Ohio and they had 4 sons; Dennis, Jeffrey, Timothy and David. He used his skills in craftsmanship, building and plumbing to build a home and garage for his family in the mid 1950s where the boys were raised. Junior continued throughout his life working in the trades and collecting, buying and selling trucks, tractors and farm equipment even up until he was in his 80's. He moved from Dayton, Ohio to Thomasville, Georgia in the 1980's where he lived until he was 83 years old. He loved spending time outdoors on his small plot of land there, continuing in the farm equipment business. He was skilled at most everything that involved mechanics and building, and lived his life doing those things, he always had a project going. He truly loved keeping busy, soaking in the Georgia sun and spending as much time as he could with his sons. Junior is preceded in death by his son Jeffery Lynn Duncan, parents Lave and Jewell Duncan, grandson Timothy E. Duncan, daughter- in -law Karen S. Duncan, sister Frances Duncan Miller and brothers; Calvin, Johnny, Bryant and Jesse Duncan. He is survived by his son Dennis L. Duncan of Lewisburg, Ohio, son Timothy E. Duncan of Jamestown, Ohio, son David M. Duncan of New River, Arizona, as well as 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Junior was a one of a kind man, he was as tough as they come, with dashing good looks and a fiery spirit. He didn't let anything hold him down or keep him back from living his life. He truly "lived the life he loved and loved the life he lived" as they say. He carried himself in such a way that his presence commanded respect because of the strength of will that he showed. With age he softened and did eventually slow down a bit and it was a joy to spend time with him, make him chuckle and to hear his stories.. to see how his blue eyes would twinkle with amusement and mischief. He was honored and loved by his family and he will truly be missed by both his family and his friends. Services will be held on Monday November 3, 2014 at The Living Word Church in Vandalia, Ohio. Visitation hours are from 10am-11:30am and Home Going Service will begin at 11:30am. Burial will immediately follow at Bearcreek Cemetery in Trotwood, Ohio. Arrangements entrusted to Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
