Donald Leo Coover, 74, of Vandalia, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family in prayer, on Monday, May 08, 2017.
Don is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 14 years, Donna Brewsaugh Pfarrer-Coover, mother-in-law, Mildred (Millie) Kennedy, siblings Shirley (Bobby Joe) Cox, Richard (Janet) Coover, Gary (Sheila) Coover, and Pam (Ricki) Horn, and brother-in-law, Gary Brewsaugh. Don was extremely proud and a loving father of his children, Wendy Hull, Heather Adrian Coover, Christopher (Lea) Coover, Kimberly (James) Cerney, and, Jeffery (Kristine) Pfarrer. Grandchildren, Andrew (Christina) Adrian, Adam (Danielle) Adrian, Alan (Alex Parache) Adrian, Austin (Melissa Gilbert) Adrian, Gregory (Kirsten) Hull, Geoffrey (Courtney Friedrichsen) Hull, Zachary and Cody Coover, Steven Pfarrer and Diana (Ashley) Pfarrer. Great-grandchildren, Marley and Lennie Hull, Jude Hull, Max Weaver, Collin and Paxton Adrian, and Wyatt Pfarrer. Numerous loving cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.
Don was born December 20, 1942 to Robert and Dorothy Rotterman Coover.
He is proceeded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Kay Dinneen Coover, and grandson, Aaron Marcus Adrian.
He attended Chaminade High school and graduated in the class of 1960. Don was a member of Emmanuel’s Catholic Church and attended Ginghamsburg church.
Don devoted his life to Christ and to his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a friend to all. He worked at Bon Builders for over 29 years. Don enjoyed gardening, boating, traveling, coaching, watching sports, and especially spending time with his family. He served as a volunteer at the Ginghamsburg Church Food Pantry. He was also a supporter of the Sightless Children Club of Vandalia, and the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Light the Night Walk. Don leaves a legacy of teaching his family, friends and all who knew him about Christ and the ultimate importance of family.
A special thank you to the caregivers of the Hospice of Dayton and the doctors and nurses at the James Cancer Hospital for their support and compassion at the end of Don’s journey. Memorial contributions may be made to the James Cancer Hospital, Biliary System & Liver Cancer Research Fund (312852) at the Ohio State University or Hospice of Dayton.
Funeral Service Friday May 12, 2017 11 am at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 435 E. National Road, Vandalia, OH. Burial to follow at David’s Cemetery, 4600 Mad River Rd., Dayton, OH. Family will receive friends Thursday May 11, 2017 from 5-8 pm at Morton and Whetstone, 139 South Dixie Dr., Vandalia, Ohio with a brief Prayer Service at 8 pm. The family will also greet friends at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, immediately prior to Mass.
