Donald R. Latta

August 21, 1926 — March 1, 2011

LATTA, Donald R., passed away Tuesday, March 1, at 10:00 pm. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Ruth Latta; sister, Thelma Aldstadt; and brother-in-law, Bill Rodgers. He is survived by his wife of more than 56 years, Delores Latta; two children, David Latta and Denise (Dana) Kenworthy; two grandchildren, Brandon (Heather) Walton; and Sara Walton; two great-grandchildren, Brett and Riley Walton; one sister, Lila Rodgers; two brothers-in-law, Everett Aldstadt and Larry Moody; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Don was born August 21, 1926 to Ray and Ruth Latta. As a member of the Greatest Generation, he left home upon graduating from high school and joined the Navy to help in the war effort. After his service, Don returned home to Corning, Ohio, the hometown of him and his wife. In 1954, he and Delores Moody were married. Don worked as a salesman for the Rexall Drug Company for many years. His career as a salesman required the young family to move often across the Midwest. They eventually settled in Tipp City, Ohio. Don and his wife, Dee became active members of the Tipp City United Methodist Church. Don Latta needed many nerve pills to deal with his family. He rarely held his tongue and as a result, there was seldom a dull moment. He was a father for two, but a hero to many. He was strong-willed, determined and fierce. Don yielded to no one and above all he was a principled man. He was the keeper of the family. His family will remember him for his sharp tongue and giving nature. His long life presented him the opportunity to raise two children, serve his country, be a great husband for nearly 60 years and teach his granddaughter to ride a bike. He did it all with humility. Funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm, Sunday, March 6 at the Tipp City United Methodist Church, 8 W. Main St., Tipp City with Rev. Bonita Wood officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 2:00 pm until time of service. Graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon, Monday, March 7, at Dew Cemetery, Perry County, OH. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County or to the Parkinsons Association in Dons memory. Arrangements by Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia.
