Mosley, Donald

Donald (Don) Mosley, 86, of Vandalia, OH, died peacefully on July 24, 2018. He remained at home and was cared for by loving family, friends and caregivers. Don retired as Operations/Parts Manager of Navistar International (formerly International Harvester) trucking company in Dayton, OH in 2003 after 42 years, but remained connected on a part-time basis for a number of additional years. His loyalty, willingness to serve and dedication to those closest to him knew no limit. Leisure time was spent ‘piddling’ around the house as he called it, specifically in his garden caring for his wife of nearly 68 years, Glenna’s, prized rose bushes. He also enjoyed traveling between Vandalia, Hyden and Florida - where his love of fishing took center stage. Florida allowed him to get on the many lakes with family and friends catching the evening’s supper, and everyone who enjoyed those meals was always more than satisfied!

As his grandchildren began successful sports endeavors, you could find him traveling all over the country to support and cheer them on at various softball and baseball tournaments and football games. He was always introduced to teammates and their families as “Papaw.” He personified the namesake and made it his own. He wasn’t just our Papaw, he was everyone’s Papaw wherever he went.

Don was the youngest child of the late Elihu and Nellie Mosley of Muncy’s Creek (Hyden), KY and was preceded in death by his wife, Glenna (Melton) Mosley just 12 weeks prior. He is also preceded in death by his brother, McKinley (Mac) Mosley and many other half-brothers and sisters. He is survived by his children, Teresa Lucas of Tipp City, OH and Donald (Donnie) Mosley, Jr (Alycia) of Kodak, TN. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Emily Mosley (Fayetteville, GA), Aaron Lucas (Pittsburgh, PA), Gretchen King (Winter Haven, FL), Ryan Lucas (Dayton, OH), Ashley Cobb (Canton, GA), Mackenzie Smith (Knoxville, TN) and seven great-grandchildren, Madilynn (Madi), Evelyn (Evvie), Isabella (Bella), Abbigail (Abbi), Donavan, McKinley and Preston as well as many nieces and nephews.

Don was a special father and grandfather to Teresa, Donnie and Alycia Mosley, Emily Mosley and Mark Loyd, Aaron and Leigh Lucas, Gretchen and Steven King, Ryan and Christa Lucas, Ashley and Morgan Cobb and Mackenzie and Tyler Smith.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his dedicated caregivers, the team at Visiting Angels. They allowed him the dignity to remain peacefully at home for so long. That dedication to his care and the kindness of his caregivers will never be forgotten.

Relatives and Friends will be received at MORTON-WHETSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 139 South Dixie Drive, Vandalia, OH 45377 on Saturday from 12:00 – 2:00. A service of Christian Burial will be immediately following. Don will be laid to rest in Forest Hills Cemetery following the service.
