Donald L. "Don" Vance

Vance, Donald L. "Don" age 76 of Vandalia, passed away Sunday July 6, 2014 at Miami Valley Hospital following an illness. Don was born February 12, 1938 in Miami County, son of the late Norman & Lillian (Schmidt) Vance. Don was a 1956 graduate of Vandalia Butler H.S. and a graduate of The University of Dayton. He was a retired industrial engineer with Chrysler Corp and was an active member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church where he was serving on the Pastor Parrish Committee. He was also active with the youth groups at the church for several years. Don was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He taught hunter education courses for the States of Ohio and Florida for many years. Don is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Nancy; his children D. Stephen Vance of Vandalia, Karen Sue Vance of Huber Heights and Michael Alan Vance of Largo, FL; one brother Robert H. & wife Rosalie Vance of Vandalia; grandchildren Brandon & wife Crystal Vance, Cory Vance, Andy & wife Katie Vance, Taylor Vance; 2 great-grandchildren Logan & Elijah and a host of nieces nephews other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday July 11 at 1:00pm at the Vandalia United Methodist Church 200 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia with burial to follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia on Thursday evening from 6-8pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the VUMC Memorial Fund in Don's memory.
