Dorothy L. Roberts

ROBERTS, Dorothy L., age 89, formerly of Vandalia, passed away at the Springmeade Health Center, Saturday, August 15, 2015. She was a native of Scottsburg, Indiana born March 1, 1926 to Walter and Clara Bridgewater. After graduating from Scottsburg High School in 1944, she then attended St. Joseph Infirmary School of Nursing in Louisville, KY where she graduated and became a registered nurse. She moved to the Miami Valley area in 1947. She worked for many years, as a nurse, at both Stouder Memorial Hospital in Troy, OH and St. Elizabeth Hospital in Dayton, OH before retiring. She was an active member for many years of the Vandalia United Methodist Church and the Vandalia Senior Citizens. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Beverly (Jim) Benham of Tipp City, granddaughter, Kimberly (Brian) Harbison of Tipp City, grandson, Douglas (Melonie) Benham of Tipp City and great-granddaughter, Emily Grace Benham of Tipp City. She is also survived by a half-brother, Walter C. Bridgewater. Her parents and brother, Burton Bridgewater preceded her in death. The family would like to thank Springmeade Health Center and Hospice of Miami County for the wonderful care that was given to Dorothy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 22, at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with Pastor Michael Malcosky officiating. Inurnment will follow at Casstown Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia, OH 45377 or to Hospice of Miami County, P.O. Box 502, Troy, OH 45373 in Dorothy's memory.
