Duane A. Deal

Duane Allen Deal, 71, of Vandalia, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024. He was born to Richard & Barbara Deal on June 7, 1953 in Troy, Ohio. Duane is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dawn Callison. 

Duane was a graduate of Vandalia Butler High School and McPherson College in Kansas. He was a member of First Light Church in Vandalia, board member of Tamiami Village Community Church and former choir director at Community Grace Brethren Church for over 30 years. 

Duane's life was marked by his faith. He was all about family, church, helping people and spending time at Dale Hollow Lake with family and friends. He was a volunteer firefighter in Vandalia, taught construction at MVCTC, retired from Ferguson Construction Company and enjoyed woodworking.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Pat Deal; son, Aaron (Jennifer) Deal; daughter, Amber (Tim) Thomas; sister, Della Schemmel; grandchildren, Abbey (Carter) Palmer, Andy Thomas, Jenna (Tyler) Hite, Alanna (Brendan) Pohle, Aaron E. Deal, Jessica Deal & Anna Thomas; great grandson, Arthur Pohle; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. 

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024 at First Light Church, 140 Elva Ct, Vandalia, with a memorial service at 4 p.m. Pastor David Starry, officiating. Arrangements entrusted to the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, Vandalia. In lieu of flowers gifts can be made to Samaritan's Purse hurricane relief efforts.
