E. Elwanda Porter

Edith Elwanda Porter, age 91 went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Lane Park Assisted Living in Huber Heights. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter L. Porter, her parents Wilda and Edna Hunt, two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her children, Sue Burke and husband David of Tipp City, Ohio, her sons, Walter Porter and wife Jo Ann of New Carlisle, Ohio, and Philip Porter and wife Kathryn of Kernersville, North Carolina, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Elwanda was born in Troy, Ohio and moved to Northridge as a child. She attended Northridge High School where she was Valedictorian in the class of 1942.

Elwanda worked at Aero Products division of General Motors during WWII where she met her husband Walter. In 1955 Walter opened Porters Shoe Repair in Town and Country Shopping Center, and Elwanda was a vital part of the business keeping the books and records. Elwanda has been a faithful member of the Vandalia Church of the Nazarene. She was active in the various churches they attended over the years, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and playing the piano and organ. Elwanda loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Vandalia Nazarene Church, 620 Stonequarry Rd with Rev. Bob Vogelmann officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 10:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Vandalia Church of the Nazarene.
