Elizabeth H Smith

July 27, 1913 — June 13, 2010

SMITH, Elizabeth Hinshaw, age 96, peacefully passed away Sunday, June 13 at her sons residence on Deer Hunters Lane in Prospect, TN. Born July 27, 1913 in Wirtz, VA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Barbara Wray Hinshaw and the wife of the late Paul Charles Smith. She graduated from the Blacksburg College (Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg, VA. A veteran of the US Navy, she served in Washington, DC, during WWII. Elizabeth also served a long nursing career in Dayton, OH . She is survived by her son: Gary G. Smith and his wife A. Katharine Kiss of Prospect, TN; her grandson: Brian C. Smith of Orrstown, PA; her sister: Lucia (Lee) Davis of Kettering, OH; her sister-in-law: Marian Hinshaw of Dayton, OH; her niece: Leanne; and nephews: Phillip, Charles, Edward, and Bill. Elizabeth is also survived by 5 step-children: Edwin (Joan) Smith of Oregon, IL, Richard (Jean) Smith of West Milton, OH, Terry Smith of Tipp City, OH, Zola (Lou) Schnelle and Norman Smith, both of Vandalia, OH; and extended family through her son: Deborah (Brandon) Starkey of Kearneysville, WV; Samantha (Chad) Mowery and their 5 children of Orrstown, PA, and Jeremy (Michelle) Kelso and their daughter of Shippensburg, PA. She was preceded in death by her four brothers: Walter, James, Joseph and Mesh Hinshaw; and three step-daughters: Carol Temple, Suzanne Baldwin and Jacqueline Wonderlick. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 3:00 PM at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home in Vandalia, OH. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 2:00 pm until time of service. Inurnment will be in the National Veterans Cemetery in Alexandria, VA.
