Eric G. Hannahan

January 6, 1958 — October 19, 2022

Vandalia, Ohio

Hannahan, Eric G., age 64, of Vandalia passed away unexpectedly from a pulmonary embolism on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. Eric was born on January 6, 1958, in Dayton, Ohio, to John Stanley Hannahan, Sr. and Amanda (Durham) Hannahan. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law Kermit H. and Anna R. Hannahan; sister Jeanetta (Nita) Justice; brother John S. (Jay) Hannahan, Jr.; and best friend of many years, Monte Rhoades.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 41 years, Kimberly K. Hannahan; sons Nathan A. (Leah) Hannahan and Kenneth R. (Kimberly Werst) Hannahan; granddaughters Ella and Audrey Hannahan; grandson Hudson Hannahan; step grandchildren Ava, Kaden, and Kassidy Werst; sisters-in-law, Tina (David) Thomas and Nyla Hannahan; nephews and nieces Joshua Thomas, Holly Thomas, David (Lisa) Hannahan, Jim (Kathy) Hannahan, Jeff (Diana) Hannahan, Kimberly Justice August, and Mitzi Justice; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Eric moved to Vandalia at the age of 13 and graduated from Vandalia Butler High School in 1977. He retired from the Vandalia Butler City Schools in 2011 after 32 years of service in various roles, starting out as a school bus driver and finishing the last eight-plus years as the Supervisor of the Maintenance, Building and Grounds Department. Early in his career, Eric also served as a paid, on-call, Firefighter/EMTB for the Vandalia Fire Department for nearly 10 years. To help support his love of technology, Eric also worked various part time jobs through the years at Miami Valley Shooting Grounds, Hannahan Custodial Services, and Charter Vans.

Fondly known for his goofy grins and unique sense of humor, Eric also had a vast knowledge of random trivia. He spent countless hours in his home office/computer room known as Command Central. He enjoyed monitoring many things including the weather, the police scanner, govdeals.com, or social media while also listening to music, a podcast, an Oldies radio show, or shopping online. Eric was also an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and enjoyed listening/watching the games. He also enjoyed sitting in the patio room or grilling/chilling in the back yard with a good cup of coffee and the dogs.

Eric loved his family and was very proud of his wife, their sons, and their families. Video chatting with his family (especially his grandchildren) brought him joy. Although his declining health prevented him from attending events, he loved hearing about his loved ones and their adventures—the more photos the better!

Eric was a member of the Masonic Lodge #777. He was also a friend of Shiloh United Church of Christ in Dayton and Cypress Lake Presbyterian Church in Ft. Myers, FL.

The funeral service will be held at the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Drive on Monday, October 24, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. with Senior Pastor, Michael Malcosky officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service. Eric’s final resting place will be the Poplar Hill Cemetery in Vandalia.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made in Eric’s memory to the organization of your choosing. The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time. Special thanks to Mark and Stacie Whetstone.
