Eugene C. Compton

COMPTON, Eugene Calvin, age 85, of Huber Heights, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born July 15, 1926 in Cinderella, West Virginia, son of the late Elkanah & Cora (Taylor) Compton. Eugene was a US Army Veteran of WWII and was a retired Inspector with General Motors with 35 years of service. He was an active and faithful member of the Vandalia Baptist Temple and was a member of the choir and quartet. Eugene was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Preceded in death by 2 brothers, Edward & Herbert Compton and 1 sister, Betty Hale, Eugene is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Evelyn Compton; 1 daughter, Linda Robertson (Gary) of Huber Heights, 1 son, Steve Compton (Renay) of Nashville, TN; 1 brother, Herman Compton of Council, VA; 1 sister, Margaret Fletcher of Bristol, TN; 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 7 at the Vandalia Baptist Temple, 724 Helke Rd, Vandalia with Rev. Randy Washburn officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Friday evening from 4-6 pm and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until time of service.
