Frances Carns Severt, age 91, was born August 5, 1932 in Dayton, Ohio. Frances was the daughter of the late Albert and Martha (Myers) Carns. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband (of 69 years) Kenneth Severt, brother Mervin Carns and sister Marlene Hancock. Frances graduated from Northridge High School, class of 1950. She and Ken were longtime members of St. Christopher Catholic Church where she was active in various ministries and the Vandalia Historical Society.
Frances was an avid gardener and was involved for many years with the Grow and Show Garden Club. A Northridge Polar Bear through and through, Frances was a high school cheerleader who in later years organized many class reunions. She cherished her high school friends her entire life. In fact, she was a “people-magnet, always warm and positive and genuinely interested in others. Walking into the Severt home was like walking into a great big hug. Visitors were treated like family and Mom always had something yummy to share whenever someone dropped in. We fondly recall family dinners and holiday celebrations around the kitchen table where we enjoyed Mom’s specialties…chicken pot pie, apple pie and the grandkids’ favorite coffee cake. As the years went by, more and more of us crowded around that table to reminisce and share stories and laughter. At the center of it all was Mom, who loved us all unconditionally, loved bringing us all together, and who we will dearly miss.
Frances’ memory will be cherished by her sons Michael (Sharon) Severt, Tim Severt, and daughter, Donna Fletcher; grandchildren, Abby (Brett) Jones, Jenny Severt, Zachary Severt, Andy (Lindsay) Fletcher and Leah Fletcher; great-grandchildren, Noah, Cam, Chloe and Addie, sister-in-law Nancy Carns and beloved nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the Eucharistic Ministry of St. Christopher Parish and the nurses and aides of Dayton Hospice for their care of Frances and comfort to our family.
