Gene Hungate

HUNGATE, Gene H., age 67 of Harrison Twp., passed away Monday, November 12, 2007 at Essex Nursing Home in Springfield after a lengthy illness. He was born October 16, 1940 in Coal City, WV, son of the late Ira Hobert & Lake Evelyn (Cole) Hungate. He was a US Army Veteran and he retired from the former Overnite Transportation Company in 1997 where he was employed as an over-the-road driver. Gene is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ann; 1 daughter, Terri (Bill Teague); 1 son, Tim Hungate, all of Dayton; 3 brothers, Earl (Sena) Hungate of FL, Dale (Lorraine) Hungate of WV, and Wayne (Carol) Hungate of ID; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, November 15, at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia with Pastor Neil Williams officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-8 pm. The family would like to offer a special thank you to all the doctors and nurses at the V.A. ICU, the Kindred Hospital, Mercy Hospital and Essex of Springfield for their care of Gene. Also, special thanks is expressed for the kindness and compassion of Dr. Nha To and to the church families of the Living Word Church of Dayton and Anointed Word Fellowship of Springfield for their prayers and support of Gene during his illness.
