KNISLEY, Loren E. “Gene”, age 84 of Vandalia, passed away Monday, November 15, 2021 at his residence. Gene was born December 2, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late Kenneth L. and Goldie M. (Walls) Knisley. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from the City of Dayton Police Department in 1989 after 28 years of dedicated service. Gene enjoyed flying, sailing, was a life member of the AmVets and an active member of the American Legion Post #668 until 2017. Gene had many hobbies, interests, and “jobs”, but his favorite job of all was being a Grandpa to his four very special grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard D. Knisley; Gene is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce (Cook) Knisley of Vandalia; children, Julie Wilson (Jim) of Springboro and Keith Knisley (Katie) of Butler Twp., grandchildren, Madeline and Nicholas Wilson and Emma and Lydia Knisley.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Vandalia United Methodist Church, 200 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with Rev. Michael Malcosky officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 11:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Gene's memory.
