Gene Alan Cooper “Coop”
Age 70, of Union, Ohio passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023, at Grandview Hospital, Dayton, Ohio. Coop was born September 21, 1952 in Dayton to the late David Salmar & Sylvia (Stahl) Cooper. In addition to his parents, Coop was also preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Williams & Tammy Cooper.
Coop was a U. S. Army veteran and retired as a Printer, an occupation in which he worked his entire life. He was an avid fisherman and he loved drag racing. In his younger years he enjoyed motorcycle riding and was very proud of his Virago and later his Harley Davidson. He was known by many as “Mean Gene the Dancing Machine” because he was a talented singer & dancer.
Coop is survived by two children, Kandi Jo “Lucy” Cooper and Les “Buzz” Lairson & his fiancée, Lisa; his beloved cat, Leo; seven grandchildren, Kameron, Hunter, Grace, Samantha, Dalton, Lance & Layne; one great granddaughter, Delilah; two siblings, David Cooper and Donna Byram & her husband, Rick; and by his extended family & many good friends.
The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, February 17, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Polk Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in memory of Coop to the Wounded Warriors Project.
