George W. Viars

VIARS, George W. age 74 of Vandalia passed away Saturday February 15, 2014 at Stonespring of Vandalia after a lengthy illness. George was born September 18, 1939 in Rockcastle Co. Kentucky, son of the late Sol & Gertrude (Powell) Viars. George was a retired employee of GM Delco Products and the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Vandalia; two time Past Master of Vandalia Lodge #742F&AM; a Kentucky Colonel and a "regular" at Jims Donut Shop. George was Chairman of the Vandalia Butler Food Pantry for many years where he faithfully served his community helping those in need. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Carol and one brother Johnny Viars. He is survived by his daughter Tanya Viars of Vandalia and one brother Lloyd & wife Lula Viars of Berea, KY and a host of other relatives and countless friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday February 18 at 1:00pm at First Baptist Church Vandalia, 140 Elva Ct. with John Seagraves officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, George would have wanted donations made to the Vandalia Butler Food Pantry in his memory to continue such a vital service to his community.
