Geraldine Kay Brown

Age 85, of Centerville, OH, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at Optimized Senior Living in Lebanon, OH. She was born February 11, 1933, in Hillsboro, OH to Donald Leroy Brown and Irma Elizabeth (Cast) Brown. Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister, Patricia Ann Smith, her sister Barbara Jo Brown, and nephew Steven Andrew Smith.

She is survived by her sister Judith Ellen (Brown) Breuer, her brother Donald Michael Brown, and her brother-in-law Paul J. Smith. She is also survived by nieces Mary Kay Smith, Katherine Seppi, Beth Lear, and Erin Keener and nephews David Smith, Jeffrey Brown, Matthew Breuer, and Eric Breuer, as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews, numerous dear friends, and her beloved dog Higgins.

Gerry graduated from Vandalia-Butler High School in 1951 and from The Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing on August 27, 1954, and devoted her entire working career to nursing, especially as a psychiatric and mental health nurse. Gerry helped open the Dayton Children’s Psychiatric Hospital, worked in the Good Samaritan Hospital Mental Health In-Patient Unit, and was the Intake Nurse at the Crisis Care Center in Dayton. While working at Good Samaritan Hospital, Gerry and four other nurses formed the “Wrinkle Butt Club” which grew over many years and resulted in many, many close and lasting friendships. Three words that describe Gerry’s life are family, friends, and nursing as happiness to her was caring for and bringing people together.

Gerry’s family would like to thank touching Hearts at Home, Optimized Senior Living, and Queen City Hospice and Palliative Care for their wonderful care and concern.

A celebration of Gerry’s life will be held December 9 from 2-4 p.m. at Lexington Meadoes Clubhouse, 1621 Yardley Circle, Centerville, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to a charity of your choice in Gerry’s memory.
