Henderson, Gilbert N., age 80 of Vandalia, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born October 16, 1927 in Aurora Illinois, son of the late Alexander and Marie (Nill) Henderson. Mr. Henderson earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1948. He studied law at Indiana University, earning his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1950. He then served as an officer in the USAF Air Material Command JAG Office at Wright Patterson AFB Ohio from 1953 to 1956. He worked as a staff attorney with the Ford Motor Co. Patent Dept. in Dearborn, Michigan from 1956 to 1958 and then finished his career practicing patent law as associate and partner in the law firm of Biebel & French in Dayton, Ohio from 1958 to 1992. Mr. Henderson served as past trustee of the Ohio Conference United Church of Christ (UCC) and the Greater Dayton Christian Connection, past moderator of the Southern Ohio Northern Kentucky Association of UCC and was an active member of Polk Grove UCC, Dayton. Survived by wife of 55 years, Martyne C. (Hail); son, Robert L. Jones & wife, Linda of Centerville, grandchildren, Amy Jones Ulrich and Allisa Jones Hamilton; son, Stephen A. Henderson & wife, Charlene of Tipp City, grandchildren, Casey L. and Stephen A. Henderson Jr.; 6 great-grandchildren and his beloved dogs, Maggie and Hailey. The family will receive friends at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Thursday evening (TODAY) from 5-8 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, October 10 at Polk Grove United Church of Christ, 9190 Frederick Pike, with Rev. John Fowler officiating. Burial to follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Polk Grove United Church of Christ Memorial Fund in Gils memory.
