Glenna I. Behnken (nee: Kistler)
Age 101, of Dayton, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016. She was born March 25, 1915 in a farmhouse on Wagoner Ford Road in Dayton, to the late Clem E. & Nora Jane (Otey) Kistler.
In addition to her parents, Glenna was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Roy “Shorty” Behnken, in 1970 and by eight siblings: Blanche, George, Helen, Herb, Harold, Oscar, Bessie & Pearl Alice.
Glenna was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Downtown Dayton for the past 49 years and from 1945 – 1961 she and her husband owned & operated Behnken’s Market near West Third St and Union Road.
She is survived by two children, Del Behnken and Janice E. Behnken and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Tuesday (9/6) at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jonathan Moyers officiating. Interment will be at Willow View Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the current and former loving & caring staff at Walnut Creek Nursing Home and the staff at Hospice of Dayton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions should be made in memory of Glenna to either St. John’s Lutheran Church or The Hospice of Dayton.
