Grace Foster

April 12, 1921 — May 22, 2016

FOSTER, Grace Jeanette, age 95, of 3377 Woodridge Dr., Flushing, Michigan died Sunday evening May 22, 2016 at her home. She was born April 12, 1921 in Forestville, Wisconsin, the fourth of eight daughters born to Herman and Clara Busse. Baptized in the Methodist church, she grew up on a dairy farm on Door county, Wisconsin.

After high school she entered and graduated from Bellin Memorial School of Nursing in Green Bay, Wisconsin receiving a diploma in 1943. In 1981 at the age of 60 she received a Bachelor of Science degree from Central State University in Ohio, because all head nurses at the hospital where she worked had to have a college degree.

Believing that all families had a duty to serve during World War II, and because her dad could not serve since he was a farmer, she joined the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Lt. (JG)(NC) USNR. While in the service at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, she met and married Thomas Wade Foster, a Marine from Coshocton, Ohio. They had a daughter and a son.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Lee Silvis and her husband Thomas, also of Flushing, Michigan, two sisters in Wisconsin and a brother-in-law and his wife in Ohio, plus many nieces and nephews. Grace's husband, Thomas, and son Gregory Charles Foster, an engineer like his dad, are both decreased. She is also survived by a granddaughter Virginia Grace Silvis and her husband Michael Hunter, of Norman, Oklahoma and a grandson Matthew Thomas Silvis of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Per her wishes cremation has taken place. Final internment will be August 5, 2016 at 2:00 PM in Forest Hills Memorial Cemetery in Tipp City, Ohio. Thanks go to Rossell Funeral Home in Flushing, Michigan and Morton and Whetstone Funeral Home in Vandalia, Ohio for providing assistance and support to the family.
