H. Evelyn Hept

December 15, 1917 — May 4, 2011

HEPT, H. Evelyn, age 93, of Friendship Village, formerly of Vandalia, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Friendship Village. She was born December 15, 1917 in Shiloh, OH, daughter of the late William & Kitty (Bashor) Chitwood. Evelyn was a member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church and the Vandalia Senior Citizens. She was a member for over 50 years of the Daughters of the Nile, Azizah Temple No. 57, and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Butler Township Fire Dept. Evelyn enjoyed bowling and travel clubs, and participating in her numerous card clubs. Preceded in death by her husband, Robert; 5 brothers, 1 sister, & her son-in-law, Marvin Collins. Evelyn is survived by her children, Wanda Gaylor (Charles) of GA, Mary Lou Collins of Dayton, Sharon Blakeman (Bill) of Canada, Roberta Darner (Patrick) of Dayton; Edward Hept (Debby) of Vandalia; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, May 9 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia with Rev. Deborah Hept and Rev. David Snowdon officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospitals or to Hospice of Dayton in Evelyns memory. The family wishes to offer a special thanks to Hospice of Dayton and the staff at the Friendship Village Health Center for the kind and compassionate care they all provided to Evelyn.
