COY, Harlen Dale, age 82 of Tipp City, passed away Friday, December 30, 2016 at the Dayton VA Medical Center Hospice Unit. He was born June 13, 1934 in Beavercreek, OH, son of the late Harlen Leon “Todd” & Naomi T. (Darding) Coy. Preceded in death by his parents and sister & brother-in-law, Marcella & Dick Vest, and sister Beverly Pabst, Dale is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia L. Coy; 1 sister, Louelle Jacoby (Jerry) of PA; his children, Steve (Jeanette) Coy of McKinney, TX, Greg Coy of Tipp City and Candy (Dr. Rindy) Matthews of Leesburg, OH; 9 grandchildren, Rachel Coy, Michael Coy, Todd (Stephanie) Coy, all of McKinney, TX, Matt Coy, Katie Allen, & Tyler Coy, all of Troy, OH; Dr. Roman (Amanda) Matthews of Washington Court House, OH, Rocky Matthews of Centerville, OH & Ryan Matthews of Leesburg, OH; 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; his close friend, Jim Walreb, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dale graduated from Beavercreek High School and Sinclair Community College. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, and after returning home he served in the Reserves, the Butler Township Constable, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshall Service.

He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Beavercreek, American Legion Post #668, VFW Post #6560, Masonic Lodge 742 F&AM, AASR – Valley of Dayton, AAOMS- Antioch Temple, Ohio Buckeye Sheriff Association. He retired from the military, the U.S. Marshall Service and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 5 at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr. Vandalia with Dr. Rindy Matthews officiating. Interment will follow at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County in Dale’s memory.
