BUTTS, Harold R. “Bud”

Age 87, of Vandalia, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at his home after an extended illness. Bud was born July 20, 1930 in Dayton to the late John & Etta (Wittenberg) Butts. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister & brother-in-law, Janelle & Bob Knorr. Bud is survived by his loving wife of the past 60 years, Kay (Wood) Butts; children and their spouses, John & Rebecca, Kathy & Bob Urban, Jeff & Selene; eight grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patti Shahan; cousin, Karyl Junkala; and good friend, Ann Zahn Coterel. Bud was a graduate of Stivers High School, class of 1948 and was a U. S. Air Force veteran, having served in the 13th Bomb Squadron during the Korean War. He and Kay enjoyed traveling and had visited many locations, including Alaska, Aruba and Africa. Also, he and Kay were business owners, having operated Shiloh Texaco and Greenview Texaco service stations. They also owned and operated the Northridge and Greenview Coin-op Laundries and Skipper’s Boating Supplies in Vandalia. Bud was a 50+ year member of Alpha Lodge, F&AM; a founding member of the University of Dayton Arena Assoc.; member of Eastwood Lake & Hueston Woods Sailing Associations; and member of the Vandalia Senior Citizens Center, the Vandalia Rec. Center – Senior Strength Club and formerly active in the Vandalia Kiwanis Club.

Funeral services for family and friends will be held Saturday January 13 at 10:30am at St. John Lutheran Church 122 W. National Rd, Vandalia, with Rev. Pamela Gaylor officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00am to 10:30am. Bud was a caring and devoted husband and caretaker of Kay. If so desired, contributions may be made to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer's Research Foundation. Arrangements in care of Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home.
