Harriet Cornett (nee: Shellhammer)
Age 94, of Astoria Health Center, Germantown, Ohio, formerly a resident of Vandalia, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018.
She was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on January 10, 1924 to the late Clarence and Hazel Shellhammer.
She graduated from Farmersville High School in 1942. During WWII she worked at WPAFB and later Inland, Lively’s and Anita Fashion in Vandalia and Elder Berman in Dayton. In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards, fishing, traveling, dancing and spending time with family and she loved big family gatherings.
In addition to her parents, Harriet was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Clarence E. Cornett; son, Dale Cornett; her sisters, Charlene Lenk, Louise Brunk, Virginia Jacobs, Genevieve Hook & Orabelle Diltz; and by her brothers, Nelson and James Shellhammer.
She is survived by one son, Gary (Dawn) Cornett of Germantown; daughter-in-law, Pam Cornett; five grandchildren, Eric (Nicole) Cornett, Alicia (Tyler) Long, Matthew, Dylan and Paige Cornett; three great grandchildren, Zeke Long, Claire Cornett and Ian Long; sister, Betty Warnick; along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives & friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home. Pastor Tim Woodward will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
